Tottenham secured their first Premier League win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Coventry at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as James Maddison marked his return to the starting line-up and Dejan Kulusevski made his comeback from a 526-day injury absence.
Maddison, making his first competitive start for Spurs since May 2025, opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a curling finish into the top corner against the club where his professional career began.
The midfielder helped bring greater fluency to a Tottenham side that had struggled through a winless opening six matches. Dominic Solanke appeared to have doubled the lead soon afterwards, but his close-range finish from Andy Robertson’s cross was ruled out for offside.
Coventry levelled four minutes after the interval when Jack Rudoni drove into the Tottenham penalty area and forced the ball home, briefly threatening to undermine the hosts’ positive start.
Tottenham restored their advantage in the 58th minute through Omar Marmoush. The forward marked his first goal for the club with a precise strike into the far corner.
With Spurs holding on to their lead, Kulusevski entered the match in the 86th minute to end his lengthy spell on the sidelines following a knee setback.
Ben Davies then completed the victory in the sixth minute of stoppage time, scoring a surprise goal to ensure Tottenham did not surrender another winning position at home.
The result lifts Spurs to six points and 16th place, above Coventry on goal difference, after they had started the evening at the bottom of the table. Tottenham will now face London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday Night Football.
