The aircraft, carrying about 170 passengers, diverted to Tabuk in north-western Saudi Arabia after passengers and crew members overpowered the suspect. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said one of the pilots had attacked the other before apparently attempting to crash the Boeing 737. He said those who intervened had prevented a “major disaster”. The…
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said there are “strong indications” that Iran played a part in an incident at RAF Fairford, where five men were arrested near the military base in the early hours of Sunday. Mr Burnham made the assessment during a BBC interview, breaking with the usual caution of political leaders when attributing suspected security threats to a foreign state. “There are strong indications that Iran played a part in what happened over the weekend at RAF Fairford, but of course, it remains an ongoing, complex and serious police investigation,” he said. He added: “And, of course,…

A British off-duty pilot helped save a Flydubai flight after a fellow pilot allegedly stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the aircraft, a passenger has said. The Boeing 737, carrying 180 people from Dubai to Tel Aviv, was diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia after plunging thousands of feet in less than two minutes. Passengers and crew reportedly restrained the alleged attacker as the injured captain, named as Smit Machchhar, opened the cockpit door before collapsing. Two relief pilots who were travelling on the aircraft then entered the cockpit, with one of them said to be British, and helped…
MGM Resorts International has left open the possibility of acquiring People Inc., in a striking reversal after the media group abandoned its attempt to take control of the casino operator. Bill Hornbuckle, MGM’s chief executive, said the company would continue to act in shareholders’ interests and seek to “unlock the value of a company that we think is grossly undervalued”. His comments came at the Global Gaming Expo this week, after a report that MGM was exploring an offer for People Inc. The publishing and holding company, formerly known as IAC, owns about 27% of MGM and is its largest…
Pete Davidson has described the extent of his drug use during the height of his addiction, saying he was taking a range of substances daily and had begun cooking ketamine himself. The comedian and former Saturday Night Live performer told Variety that his drug use included ketamine, LSD, magic mushrooms, nitrous oxide, cannabis and pills. “It was K. I was getting liquid and cooking it. And I would do acid and shrooms and whippets and smoke weed all day and eat pills every day,” he said. Davidson said his tolerance became so high that he no longer felt intoxicated while…

Australian Labor is preparing to consider spending cuts as Anthony Albanese’s government faces mounting internal pressure to demonstrate fiscal restraint and ease inflationary concerns before the next election. The cabinet’s spending committee is expected to examine options for reducing outlays ahead of the December budget update, according to ministers, MPs and Labor figures. The debate has intensified after Reserve Bank governor Michele Bullock said domestic economic pressures were a major source of inflation. One Labor MP said the government needed to appear “more aggressive on spending” while addressing the cost of living. “Hanson is making lots of claims about cutting…
Flock Safety’s claim that its technology helped solve more than one million crimes in the US in 2025 is not supported by the available evidence, while experts have questioned the methods used to produce the figure. Garrett Langley, the company’s chief executive, has repeatedly used the statistic in public appearances and company material. In a podcast interview in March 2026, he said: “Last year we helped clear just over a million crimes in America.” He later told the automotive publication The Drive that “over a million cases were solved last year with this technology”, and described the level of abuse…
