The Trump-Xi summit in Washington overshadowed this week’s United Nations General Assembly, highlighting how decisions by major powers are increasingly taking place outside the global body’s traditional forum. President Donald Trump hosted China’s President Xi Jinping at the White House as the two countries exerted considerable influence over the global economy, technology and the rapidly developing field of artificial intelligence. The meeting produced no immediate agreement on artificial intelligence and concluded with little more than a promise from both leaders to meet again soon. Even so, it was viewed as at least as consequential as the diplomatic activity in New…

The settlement with a group of US state attorneys general requires the combined Paramount-Warner Bros business to distribute at least 30 films in theatres in 2027 and 2028, rising to 32 films annually from 2029 to 2031. The company currently has 35 films scheduled for release next year, according to Rentrak data. But the agreement has prompted questions over the quality and variety of…
Chadwick Boseman’s widow says she has paid more than $1.7 million to the late actor’s parents while opposing an attempt by his brothers to remove her as administrator of his estate. Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman made the claims in newly filed court documents, responding to Derrick and Kevin Boseman’s concerns about her management of the estate and its finances. She said she had paid $1.5 million to Chadwick’s parents, Carolyn and Leroy Boseman, in May 2023, followed by a further $260,000 later that year and more than $4,000 in December 2024. Simone also said she had voluntarily given $300,000 of…
Cole Palmer’s latest injury withdrawal from England duty has frustrated manager Thomas Tuchel, who believes the Chelsea forward is missing valuable opportunities to establish himself with the national team. Palmer, 24, had made an impressive start to the campaign, scoring four goals in seven appearances for Chelsea. However, a recurring muscular problem has disrupted his progress and forced him to pull out of England’s Nations League squad. Thomas Tuchel frustrated by Cole Palmer injury Tuchel said Palmer’s repeated absences were preventing him from making the impression required to secure a regular starting place for England, although he stressed that the…
A 17-year-old senior was shot and killed near Westbury High School in south-west Houston on Friday morning, prompting a search for the gunman and a heightened security operation around the campus. The Cook Political Report has shifted its ratings in 15 US House races towards Democrats, warning that it is now almost impossible for Republicans to retain control of the chamber. The changes, announced on Friday, point to a more favourable electoral landscape for Democrats across a series of closely watched contests. The report did not identify the individual races in the material provided. Zach Donnini, VoteHub’s head of data science, joined the discussion of the revised House race ratings and their implications for the battle for control of the House of Representatives.
Manchester City are understood to have been found guilty of all but one of the Premier League’s 115 financial-rule charges, with former club adviser Stefan Borson warning that even relegation could be considered as a punishment. Clubs have reportedly been told that the independent panel overseeing the case has reached its decision, following a wait of three and a half years since the hearing concluded in 2024. Borson, who advised City between 2002 and 2007, said “anything is possible” when asked whether relegation could be imposed. “All hell is now going to break loose, as this is going to go…
The US Supreme Court has blocked a congressional redistricting map in Missouri that was designed to give Republicans another seat in the House, ordering the state to use the districts in place for the 2022 and 2024 elections. The ruling is the third time the court has rejected the plan, which could have increased the number of Republican voters in the district of ousted Democratic Congressman Emanuel Cleaver. It also creates a reversal for Missouri’s election process, after the Republican-backed map was used in last month’s primary elections. The Supreme Court warned that changing the boundaries again would cause “electoral…
