The vessel had been travelling towards Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan when it lost contact with authorities. Sainsbury’s is set to launch an apple crumble sandwich in November, combining fresh apple with fruit compote, crème fraîche and crumbled biscuits between slices of brioche. The unusual dessert sandwich will be sold as part of the supermarket’s meal deal range, although it will be classed as a snack rather than a main item. It will form part of Sainsbury’s Christmas range. Custard does not feature in the recipe, which instead uses the sweetened bread and creamy filling to recreate the familiar flavours of apple crumble. Amodei said the rapid advance of AI was creating risks that could outpace safety measures, including the possibility that models could take unauthorised actions or be used to help develop biological weapons. “If we build in the right way, I think the probability of something bad happening is…

The proposal could include allowing Canadians to live and work in EU countries without visas. Mr Carney has reportedly discussed the idea with several European leaders, particularly French President Emmanuel Macron. Canada and the European Union The EU…

Pressure is growing in Congress to address the looming Social Security trust fund insolvency by raising payroll tax revenues, with several Republicans signalling a willingness to consider changes traditionally regarded as politically unacceptable. Projections issued earlier this year indicated that the fund could be exhausted sooner than previously expected. Without action, benefits would face a 22% reduction by 2032, as the programme would be able to pay out only the money received through payroll taxes. Workers and employers currently each pay a 6.2% Social Security tax on wages up to $184,500 a year. Earnings above that threshold are not subject…

Phil Foden appeared to troll Manchester United fans as he left Old Trafford after Manchester City claimed a 1-0 victory in the Manchester derby. The City midfielder was sent off in the 23rd minute, but was still in a buoyant mood after his side secured three points with ten men. Foden held up a gesture indicating the final score towards supporters as he departed the stadium. Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal in the second half, although pundits questioned whether the striker had been offside. The goal nevertheless proved enough to give City victory. Manchester United struggled against ten-man City…
