A man has been arrested after four people were killed and a child critically injured in a series of alleged stabbings in Houma, Louisiana.
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, was identified by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office as a person of interest before being apprehended in connection with the deaths.
Deputies were called to the 200 block of Ashland Drive on Saturday after reports of a child suffering from multiple stab wounds. The child was airlifted to a hospital outside the area and remained in a critical condition.
As officers searched nearby properties, they discovered several other victims inside homes. At least four people were pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.
Louisiana stabbing investigation
The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and investigators have not announced a possible motive.
Authorities said the investigation remained active as detectives worked to establish what happened and verify the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as investigators continue working to develop and verify information surrounding this case,” the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Solet, who is from Houma, had previously faced an attempted murder charge after a 59-year-old woman was found repeatedly stabbed at a local motel in December 2019. Police alleged at the time that he had left her locked inside the room.
He was later found not guilty of attempted second-degree murder at trial in 2023. The earlier case involved an allegation only and did not result in a conviction.
The sheriff’s office has not disclosed what charges Solet may face in connection with the latest deaths. It has appealed for anyone with information about the incident or his movements to contact investigators.
