Harry Shum Jr has said he would like to return for both the planned Glee reboot and the Crazy Rich Asians sequel series, despite not being included in the cast announcements for either project.
The 44-year-old actor discussed the possibility after Tuesday’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, where he is competing in its 35th season. He is also filming season 23 of Grey’s Anatomy.
Asked about the Crazy Rich Asians series, Shum said: “You know what? I love those two franchises. Obviously, the last of [Crazy Rich Asians] ended on the characters that Gemma [Chan] and I play, so I would love to try and find a way to make it work.”
Shum played Charlie Wu, who reconnected with Chan’s character Astrid in the film’s mid-credits scene after she decided to end her marriage to Michael, played by Pierre Png.
A planned sequel series was announced in October, while a spin-off film focused on Astrid and Charlie’s romance had previously been reported to be in development in 2022. Neither Shum nor Chan has been named in the cast details released for the new series.

Shum also expressed interest in reprising his role as Mike Chang in the forthcoming Glee revival.
“Same thing with Glee,” he said. “I’m currently really, really busy now, but I would love to keep continuing because I love those franchises.”
Shum appeared as Mike Chang in a recurring role during the first two seasons of the musical drama before joining the main cast for seasons three and four. He later returned as a recurring presence during the final two seasons.
At present, only one of the original Glee stars has been confirmed to return for the reboot.
