Brittany Cartwright has been granted a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, Jax Taylor, as their increasingly contentious divorce continues in Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old reality television star filed for protection in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday 27 August. A judge ordered Taylor, 47, to remain at least 100 yards away from Cartwright.
Cartwright has accused Taylor of a prolonged pattern of coercive control, financial abuse, emotional and psychological abuse, gaslighting and physical violence. The claims remain allegations and have not been tested in court.
In documents filed with her application, Cartwright also alleged that Taylor once threatened to “gut” her “like a fish” and described an incident in which she said he physically attacked her and damaged property.
She asked the court to grant her sole custody of the couple’s five-year-old son, Cruz, but that request was denied pending a further hearing. The pair had previously reached an agreement to share legal and physical custody of their child, according to reports.
Taylor has strongly disputed Cartwright’s allegations. In a statement reported by TMZ, he acknowledged mistakes during what he described as the darkest period of his addiction, saying he was “truly ashamed” of his behaviour in 2024, but insisted he was not the same person today.
He said he had undergone treatment, was 21 months sober and remained committed to therapy and his mental health. Taylor also said he would respect the court’s orders and focus on being a good father.
Cartwright filed for divorce in August 2024 after five years of marriage. The legal split has yet to be finalised.
