Actress Kaley Cuoco has been named in a deposition linked to Melissa Schuman’s lawsuit against Nick Carter, after Schuman said she confided in Cuoco days after an alleged sexual assault.
Schuman, a former member of the group Dream, gave the evidence during a deposition in April while being questioned about who she had told about the alleged incident.
She alleges that Carter assaulted her at a flat in Santa Monica in about 2003, when she was 18 and he was 22. Carter denies the allegation.
Schuman told the deposition that she spoke to Cuoco on the final day of filming for the film The Hollows, which was released in 2004 and also featured Carter.
She also said she received a text from Carter after returning to the set, and alleged that he later called her and described her as a “manipulative bitch”.
Schuman filed a police report in 2017, but no criminal charges were brought. She and another woman, Shannon Ruth, have separately sued Carter over alleged sexual assaults.
Carter is countersuing, claiming the women conspired to extort money from him. He also alleges that Schuman’s claims cost him millions of dollars in business and endorsement deals.
In his lawsuit, Carter describes his encounter with Schuman as consensual. The filing states: “After having consensual sex, [Melissa] and [Nick] fell asleep. [Melissa] slept next to [Nick] through the night.”
It adds: “At no point in time did [Nick] sexually assault [Melissa] or any other person.” The cases remain ongoing.
