Charles Leclerc has spoken about becoming a father after his wife, Alexandra, gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Bianca, earlier this week.
The 29-year-old Monegasque Formula One driver returned to the track in Brazil just days after Bianca’s birth on Tuesday November 3, joining the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend ahead of Sunday’s race.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Leclerc described the arrival as “the most special thing ever” and said he had always wanted to become a young father.
“I’ve always wanted to be a young dad, and obviously with Alex, we felt like it was the right time, and it’s a very, very special moment,” he said.
Leclerc added that the week had been centred on his newborn daughter, saying: “For me, this week was all about Bianca, and it’s been, it’s been incredible.”
The Ferrari driver also offered an insight into the early days of fatherhood in a behind-the-scenes video filmed before he appeared at the fan zone, telling his team-mate Lewis Hamilton that he had slept for just over an hour.
“Yeah, the nights are, now with a baby, I slept like one hour, 15 minutes,” Leclerc said.
Hamilton replied: “Get used to it. No more of that 12 hours of sleep,” referring to Leclerc’s reported fondness for getting plenty of sleep.
Leclerc and Alexandra have been together for several years and married earlier this year.
