Three men and a teenage boy have been charged after a police pursuit involving an allegedly stolen SUV in Sydney’s west.
Officers from the Mt Druitt Police Area Command spotted the Honda, which was fitted with allegedly altered number plates, while patrolling Hebersham at about 9.50pm on Saturday.
Police stopped the vehicle on Radburn Road and approached it on foot, but the driver allegedly accelerated away. A pursuit was launched after the driver allegedly failed to stop, although it was abandoned shortly afterwards because of safety concerns.
Officers continued tracking the Honda through Hebersham before it stopped on Moorehead Road. Police allege the four occupants then left the vehicle and ran from the scene.
A search involving the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad and the North West Metropolitan Operations Support Group led to the arrest of three 18-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy.
Police allege a search of the Honda found a machete, two hammers, three bottles of bleach, gloves, balaclavas and several changes of clothing. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination, while investigators allege it had been stolen from Jordan Springs in June.
The alleged driver, an 18-year-old man, was charged with police pursuit, driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent and using an unauthorised number plate.
The three passengers were each charged with being carried in a vehicle allegedly taken without the owner’s consent. One of the 18-year-old passengers was also charged with possessing a knife in a public place.
All four were refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 8 on Sunday. Police investigations are continuing.
