Rangers closed to within one point of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic after a 2-0 victory over St Mirren, with Ryan Naderi and Dan Neil securing a much-needed away win for Derek McInnes’s side.
Naderi opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 18 minutes. The spot-kick was awarded when James Penrice was fouled, although Sky Sports co-commentator James McFadden described the decision as “softer than soft”.
Rangers had drawn their previous two Premiership matches away from Ibrox, against Dundee and Hearts, but avoided another setback at The Marbill Coaches Stadium.
Neil doubled the visitors’ advantage shortly after the hour mark when his effort took a deflection on its way into the net. The result extended Rangers’ unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 matches.
Rangers have played the same number of league fixtures as Celtic, who can restore their four-point advantage when they face Kilmarnock at Celtic Park on Sunday, before the international break brings another pause to the league programme.
