Donald Trump has offered UFC president Dana White the role of White House press secretary, in a post that also suggested a group of prominent fighters could join him.
Writing on Truth Social, the US president said: “I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States.”
It was unclear whether Mr Trump was making a genuine offer or joking. He said Mr White should bring “assistants” including fighters Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris.
“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left,” Mr Trump wrote. “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other.”
He ended the post with a direct appeal: “Dana, please take the job!”
The comments come amid speculation over who will take on the press secretary role after Katie Zacharia was fired following just five days in the job.
Nicki Minaj had also been mentioned as a possible candidate, with multiple White House staff members endorsing her on social media.
With Stephen Miller now serving as White House chief of staff, the search for a new press secretary could be resolved soon.
