A South Carolina father has been arrested after allegedly leaving his sleeping six-year-old daughter outside a Target store while he queued for Pokémon cards.
John-Michael Dooley is accused of leaving the girl with a pillow and blanket at about 1am on November 6. Witnesses told police that he did not return for more than an hour.
Police were called and Dooley eventually came back to the store, where he was arrested at about 2.30am, according to the Charleston Police Department.
Officers said Dooley admitted leaving his daughter to keep his place in the queue before returning home.
He has been charged with unlawful conduct towards a child and is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The child was unharmed and was placed into emergency protective custody with social services.
Dooley’s bond was set at 40,000 dollars. Court records show he is due to appear in court on December 18.
