Dead Meat’s horror anthology Fresh Meat is now available to rent online, giving viewers a new option for Halloween viewing just days before the holiday.
The film was released digitally on Friday 23 October after a special theatrical event earlier this month. It is currently available exclusively through Pijama, an independent-focused streaming platform, for $9.99.
Where to watch Fresh Meat
Unlike subscription services such as Netflix or Hulu, Pijama allows audiences to rent the film individually. The rental is available worldwide, according to the filmmakers.
Dead Meat was founded by James A. Janisse and features Chelsea Rebecca. The pair organised the filmmaking competition that led to the anthology, which brings together 13 original horror shorts chosen from more than 550 submissions.
The selected filmmakers come from the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Austria and the Netherlands. Janisse also wrote and directed an additional linking story, titled “Sate the Screen”, and appears in the film.
In the connecting segment, Janisse plays a butcher whose mysterious freezer doubles as a screen showing the shorts to his daughter, played by Elle Riot Fox.
Fresh Meat opened in 564 cinemas on 12 October, taking $288,767 on its first day. The film’s digital release follows that limited theatrical event.
Janisse has said the team chose Pijama because it offers a more favourable revenue-sharing arrangement for independent creators. The filmmakers intend to make the anthology available on larger platforms in future, but are encouraging viewers who want to support the project directly to rent it through Pijama.
