Emma Thompson has been filmed taking cover beneath an upturned kayak beside London’s Regent’s Canal while shooting the second series of Apple TV thriller Down Cemetery Road.
The 67-year-old actress, who won the best actress Oscar for Howards End, was seen running along the towpath before ending up on the leaf-strewn ground with a heavy green boat resting over her.
For the action sequence, Dame Emma wore a long black leather coat, grey T-shirt, blue jeans and heavy boots. In another scene, she clung to the concrete edge of the canal before dropping to her knees with her arms outstretched.
The filming appeared to show her character, private investigator Zoe Boehm, attempting to escape from a man dressed in black. Crew members, including Thompson’s stunt double in an identical outfit and matching grey wig, helped the actress back to her feet.
The first series of Down Cemetery Road, written by Slow Horses author Mick Herron, premiered last October. It followed Zoe and art conservator Sarah Trafford, played by Ruth Wilson, as they investigated the disappearance of a young girl after a house exploded in Oxford.
The new series draws on Herron’s novels The Last Voice You Hear and Smoke And Whispers. It begins with a woman falling in front of a train, prompting Zoe to investigate.
The case then draws Zoe and Sarah into the black market for art and antiquities, where they cross paths with a serial killer.
Apple announced last week that Martin Clunes, known for Doc Martin, and Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington had joined the cast.
