Jamie Gittens is reportedly back on Roma’s list of transfer targets ahead of the January window, with the Chelsea winger facing continued uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old has found regular first-team opportunities difficult to secure since joining Chelsea last season. His limited involvement had already prompted speculation that he could leave during the summer, although Chelsea were understood to be unwilling to sanction a move at that stage.
Roma were previously linked with the England Under-21 international, and a report from Gazzetta dello Sport now claims the Serie A club are again considering Gittens as they plan their January business.
Roma considering Chelsea winger
Gittens is not the only young attacker being assessed by Roma. Real Madrid forward Endrick is also reportedly under consideration as the Italian side weigh up their options.
The winger has yet to reproduce consistently the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund, where he established himself as a promising young player. Chelsea may therefore have to decide whether retaining him or arranging a temporary move would best serve his development.
A loan spell could provide Gittens with the regular football needed to rebuild his confidence and sharpness, although Chelsea may also prefer to keep him as part of the squad available to Xabi Alonso.
Competition for places is already intense, however, with other highly rated players including Estevao Willian also struggling to earn regular minutes this season. That situation could strengthen Roma’s interest as the January transfer window approaches.
