Prime Video has released a teaser trailer for Criminal, a new crime series led by Charlie Hunnam and Luke Evans and based on the graphic novels by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
The series will be released in two parts, with the first, titled Coward, arriving on 13 January 2027. It will consist of four episodes, followed by the four-episode second part, Lawless, on 27 January.
What is Prime Video’s Criminal about?
Criminal follows childhood friends Leo Patterson, played by Hunnam, and Ricky Lawless, portrayed by Gus Halper. Leo is trying to escape the criminal world in which they were raised, while Ricky is determined to emulate his father, a legendary outlaw.
Their troubled history is complicated further when Ricky’s older brother Tracy, played by Evans, returns home after serving in the Army. A murder from the friends’ childhood and a failed heist draw them back towards the past they have tried to leave behind.
Also caught up in their lives are Greta, a sharp-tongued car thief from Leo’s past, played by Adria Arjona, and Mallory, Ricky’s girlfriend, portrayed by Emilia Clarke. The story combines gunfights, heists and romance as the characters face the consequences of their choices.
The first instalment, Coward, centres on family secrets that have remained hidden for decades, as Leo and Ricky confront the murder and heist that continue to haunt them.
Lawless moves the focus to Tracy. Twenty years after choosing the Army over prison, he is forced to return to the life he abandoned when Ricky becomes involved with dangerous people.
The main cast also includes Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison, John Hawkes and Logan Browning. Guest appearances include Michael Mando, Garrett Hedlund, Patrick J. Adams, Pat Healy, Taylor Selé, Aliyah Camacho, Marvin Jones III, Michael Xavier, Dominic Burgess, Chris Diamantopoulos, Lawrence Kao, Katie Stevens, John Pyper-Ferguson, Robert Lee Hart, Aina Brei’yon and Kyle Davis.
