Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin have been spotted filming a scene together, prompting renewed speculation among Stranger Things fans about what the footage could mean.
A 20-second video posted earlier this week shows the actors walking side by side along a street before stopping as they appear to notice something ahead of them.
Stranger Things fans revisit ‘Conformity Gate’ theory
The footage has revived the unproven “Conformity Gate” theory, which claims that the apparent series finale was a deception by the villain Vecna and that a secret ninth episode could still be released.
Stranger Things concluded in January, but speculation about a further episode has continued. A surprise Halloween episode of It: Welcome to Derry has also led some fans to wonder whether Netflix could attempt a similar release.
Further intrigue came from co-creator Ross Duffer, who shared a meme on his Instagram Stories ahead of Stranger Things Day on Friday, November 6.
The meme used stills from You Can See Everything featuring Nathan Fielder. One image stated, “I know what’s coming on Stranger Things Day”, while the next replied, “No you don’t.”
There is no confirmation that the new footage is connected to an additional Stranger Things episode. One possibility is that Wolfhard and McLaughlin were filming material for Stranger Things Day, while other theories suggest a commercial for the 2027 Super Bowl, a Thanksgiving advert or a Saturday Night Live sketch.
Netflix is also developing a live-action Stranger Things spin-off. In addition, the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow is expected to be filmed and eventually made available on the streaming service, providing several possible explanations for the actors’ appearance together.
