A 23-year-old man has been charged over an alleged gang-related shooting at a vehicle carrying two children in Addison, Illinois.
Edwin Orozco, of Addison, faces charges including aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and mob action.
Addison shooting investigation
The case relates to an incident on 4 October near Lake Street and Neva Avenue. Police later found the occupants of the vehicle in the 500 block of West Stevens Drive, where officers discovered bullet holes in the driver’s-side rear panel and the lower part of the boot.
Prosecutors allege the driver had earlier confronted a man who was making gang signs at him. He then went to a business in the 300 block of West Lake Street, where he waited with his wife and daughter.
Three people are alleged to have approached the vehicle. One reportedly asked, “Which you is?” before identifying themselves as “Count Love” and hitting the rear passenger window.
When the driver began to leave, one of the group allegedly kicked the rear bumper. The driver then heard three or four gunshots, prosecutors said, with rounds striking the vehicle.
The group, including Orozco, is alleged to have fled in a red saloon travelling north on Neva Avenue. Detectives recovered four 9mm shell casings from the scene.
Investigators identified Orozco as the alleged gunman, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. A search of his home by Addison police detectives on Friday reportedly uncovered a box for a 9mm Ruger pistol.
Prosecutors also said records showed Orozco had bought a Ruger RXM 9mm pistol in November 2025.
He was arrested and appeared in court on Saturday, when a judge ordered that he remain in custody. Orozco returned to court on Monday after the case was assigned to another judge, who also ordered that he be held in pre-trial detention.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin said the alleged shooting had endangered the people inside the vehicle as well as motorists, shoppers and pedestrians in the area. No passengers or bystanders were injured.
Addison police chief Roy Selvik described the incident as gang violence and said it “has no place in society”.
Orozco is due to appear in court for arraignment on 9 November.
