Six Flags Over Georgia’s Goliath roller coaster is set to reopen with seat belts after a 42-year-old man was killed when he became unrestrained during the ride earlier this month.
The ride remains closed while it undergoes retrofitting, safety reviews and the necessary clearances. Seat belts will also be added to other rides using similar restraints, according to Six Flags chief executive John Reilly.
In a statement, Mr Reilly said: “Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia remains closed pending necessary safety reviews and clearances. Eight additional rides at five other parks are temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution. Our parks remain open, including throughout Halloween weekend, with more than 220 roller coasters operating across our parks.”
The man who died was identified as Hassan Kariem. He was reportedly thrown from the coaster and struck the tracks multiple times after becoming unrestrained.
Several parks across the United States temporarily halted operations on high-speed roller coasters with similar lap-bar restraints following his death.
Mr Kariem’s family said he was laid to rest earlier this week.
