Hilary Duff has hinted that she could take part in a shoey during her Australian tour, with Melbourne fans potentially set for the distinctly Australian tradition at one of her final shows.
The singer, who is touring in support of The Lucky Me, said she was familiar with the practice of drinking from a shoe when asked whether she would be willing to try it.
“Yes, I know about a shoey and I fear that one is in my future,” Duff said on Sunrise on Monday.
“I think maybe that’s going to be happening in Melbourne, but I’m not sure.”
She said she had three performances remaining on the tour, while her musical director, Jacob, was deciding which drink or treat she would sample on stage.
In Melbourne, Duff is scheduled to perform at Rod Laver Arena on Monday and Tuesday, with both shows sold out. She will then conclude the Australian leg in Perth on Thursday.
The former Lizzie McGuire star has already embraced another Australian tradition during the visit, taking part in a Tim Tam Slam on stage.
The tour is Duff’s first full-scale global headline run in almost two decades and follows the release of her sixth studio album, Luck… or Something, in February.
Reflecting on the response to her musical comeback, Duff said it had exceeded her expectations.
“I feel like we’ve met at the perfect time, which is almost the Lizzie McGuire effect, which was like people needed her at that time and it struck a chord and it struck a moment,” she said.
