A chewing gum undercover operation helped catch Mitchell Gaff in connection with two cold cases, according to the season premiere of “48 Hours Post Mortem”.
Correspondents Anne-Marie Green and Peter Van Sant examine how Detective Susan Logothetti and her colleagues developed the ruse and used it to pursue the killer.
The programme also explores what happened when investigators confronted Gaff, who spent more than two decades in a treatment centre for sexually violent predators.
Green and Van Sant discuss the operation’s development, the confrontation with Gaff and the reasons for his lengthy time in the treatment centre.
