Beth Stern has welcomed her husband Howard Stern’s move into streaming, saying the new HBO Max venture means the radio star will spend fewer days working and more time at home.
Speaking at New York Fashion Week in Manhattan, Beth, 54, described the partnership between HBO Max and SiriusXM as “such a wonderful thing” and added: “I mean, so Howard!”
Howard Stern’s long-running programme will continue as a live weekly show on SiriusXM’s Howard 100 channel, with the first episode of the new season due on Monday, September 14.
A filmed and edited version of the programme will then be released on HBO Max each Thursday, beginning on September 17. The episodes will be available globally and will include occasional additional material.
Beth said the reduced schedule would suit their life together in the Hamptons, where Stern has largely worked from a home studio since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s actually great for me, because he’s now going to start only working one day a week,” she told The Daily Mail. “So I get more Howard at home and he’s still connected to the world, so it’s a win-win for all of us.”
The change marks a shift from Stern’s previous schedule of two new SiriusXM episodes a week. SiriusXM has said the new arrangement will allow the programme to reach a wider audience through HBO Max while retaining its live radio presence.
Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s president and chief content officer, said the collaboration represented “another exciting chapter” in Stern’s career and described the video version as a new partnership between the broadcaster, HBO Max and SiriusXM.
Stern has been based primarily at his Hamptons home for several years, although Beth said the couple still travel between there and New York. She was attending the Alice + Olivia show at 583 Park Avenue to support the brand’s chief executive, Stacey Bendet.
The HBO Max debut will follow Stern’s return to SiriusXM on September 14, with new streaming episodes scheduled to arrive every Thursday thereafter.
