Alex Scott has suffered a serious thigh injury while on England duty and is expected to miss several weeks, dealing a significant blow to Bournemouth’s season.
The 23-year-old midfielder made his first appearance for England as a substitute against Spain before starting the subsequent match against Croatia. He played 70 minutes on his full international debut.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Scott had felt an issue with his thigh in the days before the game but was determined to play. He has since withdrawn from the England squad for the remainder of the camp.
Alex Scott thigh injury could sideline him for 10 matches
Bournemouth are concerned that Scott could miss as many as 10 matches. The midfielder has been a key player for the club, with some at Bournemouth regarding him as “the club’s best player”.
Scott’s form has also fuelled continued transfer speculation. Chelsea are reported to consider themselves “front of the queue” to sign him from Bournemouth next summer, although his current contract runs until 2028.
The Cherries have been attempting to persuade Scott to agree a new deal, including a release clause. His absence for around two months would be a major setback for the club, who are 17th in the table and seeking to revive their season after the international break.
