Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has accused Nicki Minaj of using her public platform for self-centred political reasons, criticising the singer’s support for the MAGA movement.
The Texas Democrat made the remarks in New York City on Tuesday, arguing that there was a double standard in Nicki Minaj, who is not a US citizen, acting as a prominent supporter of the movement while immigrants are being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement under President Trump.
Crockett also accused Minaj of encouraging division and said she believed the rapper was primarily acting in her own interests. The comments were made during a conversation in which Crockett discussed Minaj’s political views.
Although she strongly disagreed with Minaj’s politics, Crockett urged people to use their voices to bring communities together rather than deepen tensions.
She said Muslims and Jewish people should stand together in Michigan and elsewhere, while expressing encouragement about the future of the United States.
