Jury selection is due to begin on Monday, September 14, in the capital murder trial of Dallas rapper Yella Beezy, who is accused of arranging the killing of fellow artist Mo3.
Markies Conway, who performs as Yella Beezy, faces a charge connected to the fatal shooting of Melvin Noble Jr, known professionally as Mo3, on Interstate 35E in Dallas on November 11, 2020.
The defence has asked the court to delay proceedings, arguing that it needs additional time to obtain transcripts from the trial of the alleged gunman and prepare a key expert witness. The judge is expected to rule on the request before prospective jurors are called. Yella Beezy trial follows Kewon White conviction
The case follows the conviction of Kewon White, who was found guilty of capital murder on September 4 after a Dallas County jury deliberated for about three hours. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors said White was hired to carry out the attack. They alleged that he chased Mo3 along the highway before shooting him, while Conway is accused of organising and funding the killing. Those allegations remain unproven against Conway, who has pleaded not guilty. Conway was arrested in March 2025 and charged in an alleged murder-for-hire plot. His trial is expected to examine the relationship between the two rappers, as well as the evidence prosecutors say links him to the attack.
