Lee Mack celebrated another National Television Awards triumph with his three children by his side after The 1% Club won the Quiz Show prize for the fourth consecutive year.
The 58-year-old comedian’s ITV programme saw off competition from Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win, Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, Richard Osman’s House of Games and The Chase at Tuesday night’s ceremony.
Mack, who generally keeps his family life away from the spotlight, revealed that Arlo, 21, Louie, 19, and Millie, 14, had attended the event as he collected the award.
“My kids don’t usually come to these things, but my kids, Arlo, Millie and Louie are here,” he told the audience.
Turning towards his children, he added: “See – Dad is not a useless cretin, you’re wrong!”
The comedian also paid tribute to the team behind The 1% Club, joking that Andy was “the brains behind the operation” while he was “just the eye-candy”.
He thanked production company Magnum Media, saying: “We’re like a family, can’t remember everyone’s name. That kind of family.”
Mack then praised his wife Tara, before delivering another joke about their marriage.
“I want to thank my beautiful wife Tara, none of this would be possible without you and I want to thank my two ex-wives without whom this wouldn’t be necessary,” he said.
He immediately clarified: “I don’t really have ex-wives, I just like that gag.”
The 1% Club begins with 100 contestants, each given a £1,000 stake. The questions gradually become more difficult, starting with one answered correctly by 90 per cent of the public before culminating in the final question that only 1 per cent are expected to solve.
The win formed part of a busy night for ITV, with This Morning taking home the Daytime award. Presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard accepted the prize alongside Friday hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
Strictly Come Dancing won the Talent Show category, while The Celebrity Traitors was named Reality Competition of the year.
Elsewhere, Clarkson’s Farm won Reality Docuseries and Gogglebox took the Factual Entertainment award.
Vicky McClure won Drama Performance for her role as explosives officer Lana Washington in Trigger Point, after the category featured the first all-female shortlist in National Television Awards history.
