Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was taken to hospital for evaluation of a neck injury after being hurt during the team’s game against the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field on Sunday.
The 26-year-old All-Pro was involved in a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson in the fourth quarter when he remained face down on the turf.
Television footage appeared to show Campbell not moving his legs. Medical staff quickly attended to him, immobilised him and carried him from the field.
After the game, the Lions’ public relations team said: “Jack Campbell is being transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury.”
Campbell was identified as the player behind Hockenson in the tackle. No further details about his condition were immediately provided.
