A private jet carrying nine people has crashed near Cresthaven, Florida, about eight miles from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, killing everyone on board.
The Learjet 60 came down in a residential area at about 12.50pm on Sunday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It had been travelling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas.
Footage recorded by a passing car showed the aircraft descending almost vertically before hitting the roadside and bursting into flames. Subsequent video showed a smouldering crater and debris at the crash site.
The aircraft came down near Military Trail, between Cresthaven and 10th Avenue North. Palm Beach Fire and Rescue said the road had been closed in both directions and warned that the incident would continue for an extended period.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine passengers had died.
The crash happened close to the Florida resort where Mr Trump is staying, with reports of heightened air defence activity in the area.
