Levi Colwill is attracting interest from Liverpool and Barcelona, with Chelsea preparing to open talks over a new contract for the England international.
Colwill’s current deal runs until 2029, meaning Chelsea are not under immediate pressure to reach an agreement. However, the club is understood to regard securing his long-term future as a priority for 2027.
The 23-year-old came through Chelsea’s academy and has continued to develop despite injury setbacks. There is reportedly a strong belief within the west London club that he can become a leader and a prominent figure in the team’s future.
That view has not prevented interest from elsewhere. Barcelona are understood to have studied Colwill’s performances and statistics closely, while Liverpool are also monitoring the defender’s situation.
“Barcelona view Colwill as a top target after studying his performances and stats in great detail,” one source said. “There have been internal discussions about putting a bid together, possibly as early as this January.”
Other sources have played down the prospect of imminent bids, but Chelsea are nevertheless keen to prevent uncertainty from developing into a wider transfer saga. Talks with Colwill are expected to take place in the New Year.
Chelsea’s stated intention is to retain the defender, although figures of between £65 million and £75 million have reportedly been discussed by intermediaries as a potential level at which the club might consider an offer.
“To be clear, Chelsea want to keep Colwill,” another source said. “That’s their plan. But if someone came in with £65-75m they’d have to think about it. Let’s see how his contract talks go, but that kind of money would be hard to turn down.”
As a product of Chelsea’s academy, Colwill would represent a significant financial gain if sold. The club has also identified potential replacements, including Como’s Jacobo Ramon and AC Milan’s Koni De Winter, having previously considered Jeremy Jacquet before his move to Liverpool.
