Liverpool are considering Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as an alternative to Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, with the Premier League club’s valuation of Scott creating a significant obstacle.
Scott remains high on Liverpool’s list of targets, but Bournemouth are seeking more than £100 million for the midfielder. That has prompted Liverpool to explore other options, with Nmecha emerging as a leading possibility.
Liverpool consider Felix Nmecha amid Alex Scott uncertainty
Nmecha, 26, is already familiar with English football after spending time in Manchester City’s academy. He has since established himself as an important player for Dortmund and the Germany national team.
Several Premier League clubs are reported to be monitoring the midfielder. Manchester United have also been linked, while Chelsea and Tottenham are among the other major clubs understood to have tracked his progress.
Dortmund are under no pressure to sell after Nmecha signed a new contract earlier this year that runs until 2030. The agreement does not include a release clause that can be activated in January.
The Bundesliga club are understood to value Nmecha at between €90 million and €100 million, equivalent to approximately £84 million. A lower release clause of about €80 million is expected to become active in 2027.
Nmecha’s combination of size, athleticism and technical ability is believed to be part of his appeal. He is comfortable carrying the ball through midfield and can contribute at both ends of the pitch.
His Dortmund team-mate Nico Schlotterbeck recently praised his performances, saying: “That’s the Felix we know and want to see. If he keeps playing like this, he can become one of the greats.”
Nmecha would offer greater physical presence and experience in major European matches, while Scott would bring Premier League familiarity and long-term potential.
However, a fee of around £84 million would mean Nmecha was still a substantial investment. Liverpool may nevertheless regard the more experienced midfielder as a preferable option if Bournemouth maintain their £100 million-plus valuation of Scott.
