Manchester United interest in Murillo could be revived, but Nottingham Forest are understood to be demanding a huge fee for the Brazilian defender.
The 24-year-old remains on United’s list of potential defensive targets as the club considers ways to strengthen its back line. However, Forest are reluctant to sell, particularly during the January transfer window.
Nottingham Forest set demanding terms for Murillo
Football Insider reports that United have been warned it would take a “huge” offer to persuade Forest to part with Murillo. A move in January is regarded as highly unlikely, with the City Ground club believed to be in a strong position to set a premium asking price.
Murillo has established himself as one of Forest’s most important players since arriving at the club. The club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, has previously been reported to be willing to consider only a “silly offer” for the centre-back.
Forest’s stance is also supported by Murillo’s long-term contract, which reportedly runs until 2030. That leaves the club under no immediate pressure to sell and allows it to reject proposals that do not meet its valuation.
Murillo fits Manchester United’s defensive plans
United’s interest is understandable given Murillo’s profile. He is left-footed, comfortable carrying the ball out from defence and has already gained Premier League experience.
Those attributes would suit a side looking to refresh its defence over the next couple of transfer windows. United have also been linked with RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, although domestic deals are understood to be increasingly expensive or difficult to complete.
A January agreement for Murillo therefore appears unlikely unless United are prepared to make an offer well above market expectations. The summer could provide a more realistic opportunity, but Forest’s position means the defender would still command a substantial fee.
