More than two years after Kenny Davidson was shot dead in Kenosha, Wisconsin, his mother is still waiting for answers. No arrests have been made in the fatal shooting, and police say the investigation remains active.
Davidson, 32, was killed on 14 June 2024 near 36th Avenue and 47th Street, shortly after 9.20pm. He had travelled from Washington state to attend his grandmother’s funeral, according to his mother, Yolanda McKenzie.
McKenzie said her son had gone for a walk with a friend before he was shot. She described him as protective, loving and loyal, and said his absence was felt at birthdays, weddings, funerals and family gatherings.
“I think about him everyday,” she said. “When there’s holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals. As my grandkids get older, we think about him everyday.”
The Kenosha Police Department held a press conference with Davidson’s family in February 2025, appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Police said detectives had spoken to witnesses, canvassed the area and reviewed surveillance footage, but were still seeking new leads.
McKenzie has since organised balloon releases and other events in her son’s memory while continuing to ask members of the public to speak to investigators, even if they believe they know only a small detail.
“It’s very frustrating that we haven’t received any answers and nobody’s reaching out to us at all, not even with updates,” she said.
She said potential witnesses could provide information anonymously, adding that some people might be reluctant to contact the police but could still help the family find out what happened.
“I just asked if you have any information to come forward,” McKenzie said. “You can do it anonymously. I get like the police or not, people are not big on the police departments anymore, and they’re afraid to come forward, but I asked for the sake of justice for our family and any other families out there to just come forward if you know something any little thing can help.”
Kenosha police have said there is no new information to report. The department has urged anyone who witnessed the shooting or knows anything about Davidson’s death to contact its Detective Bureau on 262-605-5203 or Crime Stoppers on 262-656-7333.
For McKenzie and the rest of Davidson’s family, the wait for answers has continued through another year of birthdays, anniversaries and family milestones without him.
