A road rage incident on Clyde Road, south-west of Melbourne’s central business district, is being investigated by Victoria Police after an alleged confrontation was captured on camera.
William Choi said he filmed the encounter during a grocery trip last Friday, when another motorist allegedly attempted to merge in front of him. He claimed the driver had made an offensive hand gesture before the vehicles stopped at a red light.
Footage shows the man opening the passenger door of Mr Choi’s car and shouting: “Why you recording for? Why’d you cut me off like that? You almost hit my car!”
Mr Choi alleged the driver then tried to take his phone and pull him from the vehicle before returning to his Toyota and driving away.
“He tried to grab my phone, then he tried to drag me out. I was quite scared, I didn’t know what to do,” he said.
Mr Choi was not injured, but said he was upset when police initially refused to take a report at a station the following day because there had been no injury or property damage.
“It’s like encouraging other drivers this is the right thing, and it’s totally not. It’s totally not acceptable,” he said.
Victoria Police has since confirmed the road rage confrontation is being investigated. Detectives are aware of the footage and are still working to establish why the incident began.
