A newborn baby boy has been found dead inside a rubbish bin in Auburn, western Sydney, after a resident discovered the body while taking out the rubbish.
Emergency services were called to Harrow Road at about 11.20am on Monday, August 31, where officers from Auburn Police Area Command found the infant.
New South Wales Police said the baby had been placed inside a plastic bag. A crime scene was established at the residential property while detectives began investigating the circumstances of the death.
Police said they had serious concerns for the welfare of the baby’s mother and urged her to attend the nearest hospital for urgent medical care.
Acting Superintendent Darren Sly said the discovery had been traumatic for the resident who found the body, adding that officers were focused on locating the mother and ensuring her safety.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage from the time, to contact Auburn Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
