Nintendo is preparing a special presentation marking the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, amid reports of a redesigned Switch 2 console and controller bearing the series’ branding.
Images circulating online appear to show the alleged special-edition hardware, although Nintendo has not confirmed the leak. The anniversary showcase is also expected to address several major Zelda projects, including a reported remake of Ocarina of Time.
The franchise’s next major screen adaptation could also feature in the news surrounding the anniversary. A live-action Zelda film is currently expected to reach cinemas next year, though Nintendo has not announced further details about its release or cast.
Nintendo Direct will focus on Switch 2 games
A separate Nintendo Direct is scheduled for the following day at 10am Eastern Time, or 3pm in the UK. The roughly 45-minute presentation will concentrate on Switch 2 games due to launch during the winter.
The event will be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse livestream featuring gameplay demonstrations. Nintendo’s Treehouse broadcasts often offer extended looks at announced titles, while its Direct presentations can also include news about additions to the Nintendo Classics library.
No details have yet been given about which classic games will be shown. The presentations arrive as Nintendo’s latest console carries a $50 higher price than its predecessor in the US, increasing pressure on the company to demonstrate the value of its upcoming software line-up.
