Chelsea have reportedly agreed personal terms with Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, with the club hoping to complete a deal for the England international at the beginning of the January transfer window.
Simon Phillips claims the two parties have verbally agreed the details of a potential move since the summer. Chelsea are now understood to be working towards an agreement with Bournemouth, with the aim of finalising the transfer by 1 January.
The London club are seeking midfield reinforcements following Enzo Fernandez’s departure to Manchester City in the summer. Scott, 23, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s promising young midfielders and is viewed as a possible replacement for the Argentina international.
Chelsea lead the race for Bournemouth midfielder
There is no guarantee that Chelsea will secure Scott’s signature, but the reported progress over personal terms places them in a strong position. The club are said to be keen to move quickly once the next transfer window opens.
Liverpool have also been linked with the Bournemouth player, although they are reportedly considering Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as a less expensive alternative if Scott proves too costly.
Scott previously worked under Andoni Iraola during the manager’s time at Bournemouth, a relationship which could make a reunion appealing should Iraola take charge at Anfield. For now, however, Chelsea are understood to be ahead in the race as they look to strengthen a key area of the squad.
