Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Valencia winger David Otorbi, with the Spanish club facing a battle to retain the highly rated 19-year-old.
Otorbi has become a more regular presence in Valencia’s first team this season, prompting reported interest from the Merseyside club. Tribuna Deportiva claims Liverpool have intensified their efforts in recent days.
The Spain Under-18 international currently has a €30 million release clause in his contract. Valencia are understood to be keen to negotiate a new agreement that would increase the figure to around €60 million.
Further discussions over the proposed deal are reportedly expected, although it is not yet certain that the new contract will be completed.
Liverpool monitor David Otorbi situation
Otorbi’s development has been interrupted by an injury sustained during Valencia’s match against Villarreal. The winger was stretchered off, with further information on the severity of the problem still awaited.
The setback could influence Liverpool’s assessment of a potential move, although Otorbi’s long-term prospects remain highly regarded if he is able to recover fully.
Liverpool strengthened their group of young talent by recruiting Victor Munoz from La Liga this summer, and Otorbi is now emerging as another possible long-term target from Spain.
