One person has died and several others have been injured in a roller-coaster incident at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, Georgia, police said.
The incident happened on Monday afternoon, US time, on the Goliath ride at the amusement park, about 25 kilometres north-west of Atlanta.
Police have not said how the person died or what caused the other injuries. Detectives from the Cobb County Police Department’s major crimes unit are investigating.
Local media reported that witnesses saw a man fall from the roller coaster, striking parts of the ride several times before hitting the ground. At least two witnesses told Atlanta broadcaster WXIA that they saw the man hit the structure.
“He fell and hit the car three different times,” one witness said.
Another witness, Logan Conner, said: “The man started levitating in the air sideways. We made direct eye contact with him.”
A Six Flags spokesperson said the park and local authorities had responded immediately and that the company was co-operating fully with the investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said.
