A police pursuit in Jessup, Maryland, ended in a fatal crash early on Sunday after an Infiniti struck an occupied police vehicle and fled the scene. One man died and two other people were taken to hospital.
The collision happened at about 2.17am in the 7100 block of Montevideo Road, where a 2018 Infiniti Q60 hit a parked Howard County Police Department vehicle.
The driver of the Infiniti left immediately after the impact, prompting the officer to pursue the car. The chase ended roughly a mile away when the vehicle crashed into a retaining wall.
An adult male was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants were taken to Shock Trauma in stable condition, according to Howard County police.
It has not been established which of the three occupants was driving the Infiniti. Police have not announced any charges.
Montevideo Road remains closed at the Howard County-Anne Arundel County line while the investigation continues.
Because the fatal collision occurred during a police pursuit, the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division has taken control of the case. The division is expected to release any further information.
