Polish security services have held a special meeting after receiving information about a potential attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesperson for the special services, said authorities were treating the threat as “deadly serious”, although he declined to provide further details.
“We are talking about a high probability of these threats being carried out,” Mr Dobrzynski told reporters on Sunday.
Karolina Galecka, a spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, said an email containing information about the potential attack had been passed to police by the State Protection Service, which is responsible for ministers’ security.
The warning comes as Poland faces security concerns linked to its proximity to the war in Ukraine, alongside deep political polarisation in the country. Violent crime remains relatively rare in Poland.
Police detained a 23-year-old man in August who was accused of calling for the assassination of senior Polish politicians.
Mr Tusk said in 2024 that he had received threats following an assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
