A woman has been found dead in a pond at Lowther Gardens in Lytham, Lancashire, prompting a police investigation.
Emergency services were called to the gardens on Lowther Terrace at about 9am on Monday, 7 September, after reports of a body in the water. Officers, paramedics and firefighters attended, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her identity has not yet been established. Lancashire Police initially described the circumstances as unexplained, but later confirmed that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
A file will be prepared for the coroner as enquiries continue. Police said: “Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time.”
Lowther Gardens was closed while officers examined the scene, with police vehicles blocking the entrances. The park is a popular destination for families, dog walkers and older residents, and includes a playground, padel courts and a bowling green.
A walking group due to arrive at 10.30am was reportedly shocked by the discovery. Staff at the nearby Lowther Pavilion were also asked to remain inside while police carried out their work in the surrounding gardens.
The theatre later reopened for scheduled events, including an afternoon classical music recital and an evening concert by Rick Wakeman.
