A suspect was arrested after allegedly stealing a US Postal Service mail truck in Chicago’s Loop and leading police on a brief chase on Saturday evening.
Chicago Police Department officers were called to the 1100 block of South State Street at about 7.51pm after a postal worker reported that the vehicle had been taken while they were delivering mail.
Police said the suspect climbed into the unattended truck and drove away. Officers later located it and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued on, allegedly sideswiping another car in traffic.
The truck was spotted again a short time later and officers managed to bring it to a halt. The suspect got out and was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported during the incident, police said. Area detectives are investigating and prosecutors are expected to decide whether charges will be filed.
