Three people were briefly trapped and suffered minor injuries after a floor collapsed inside a two-storey brick commercial building in Arncliffe, in Sydney’s south.
Emergency services were called to the property on Hattersley Street shortly after 9am on Thursday. Witnesses reported hearing screams as rescue crews worked at the scene.
The trapped group consisted of a woman in her 20s and two men in their 30s. Fire and Rescue NSW freed them a short time later.
One of the injured people was taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition, while a fourth person was assessed by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.
NSW Ambulance supervisor Cara Low said the three people had been fortunate, particularly because heavy boxes were above them.
“They were all excavated by Fire and Rescue NSW in a safe manner,” Ms Low said.
Engineers spent several hours assessing the stability of the building while emergency crews remained at the scene.
