Twitch has removed Manuel Otto’s channel and livestream following the apparent suicide of the German gaming creator during a broadcast, in an effort to stop others viewing the footage.
A spokesperson for the streaming platform said it had “moved quickly” to take down both the channel and video. “What took place is horrible, and the mental health and wellbeing of our community matters deeply to us,” the spokesperson added.
Twitch has not released further details about what happened during the livestream.
Otto, who died aged 30, was known for creating the multiplayer game Stick Run when he was 14. The game’s team previously said he “appeared to have taken his own life”.
In a statement, the Stick Run team urged fans to respect the privacy of those affected and not to circulate unverified claims about the circumstances of his death.
Reports have linked Otto’s death to a fatal fire in Bavaria, Germany, although authorities have not publicly confirmed any connection between the incident and the streamer.
Anyone struggling or in crisis is urged to seek help from an appropriate support service.
