Russell Brand has said he is turning to God for support during his ongoing sexual assault trial in London, telling his wife that faith, truth and justice are helping him face the proceedings.
In a video posted on Wednesday, Brand and Laura Brand discussed the case while saying they would be “extremely cautious” about what they say publicly.
Laura said arriving at the courthouse made her feel as though she had put on armour and was preparing for battle. Brand responded by taking out his Bible and reading a passage about putting on “the full armor of God”.
He explained that the passage had helped him feel more relaxed while attending court. Brand also said he reminded himself that his life “doesn’t belong to me”, while crediting God for everything.
“It’s impossible not to turn to god, truth and justice” in his situation, he said, describing them as the only things that could save him.
Brand is facing three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault in the UK. Multiple women have given evidence and described alleged encounters involving the actor.
He denies having had non-consensual sex.
