Liev Schreiber was filmed swearing at and berating a red-carpet reporter during the New York premiere of his new Apple TV+ series, Nocturne.
The journalist, who was working for Apple, appeared to have asked a question that displeased the 59-year-old actor.
“Talk to people like you value what they do,” Schreiber snapped. “It’s not a f***ing sound bite, especially when we’re doing this in house for our own people.”
He continued: “We’re trying to make the show compelling, so engage with the person like they’re an artist or they’re an actor.”
Apparently referring to the question, Schreiber added: “Three words! Three words, like… three words isn’t gonna do anything for anybody, and the monkey that f***ing thought of that is shooting themselves in the foot.”
The reporter then turned to the camera and joked: “I hope you’re rolling on this,” prompting a chuckle from Schreiber and appearing to ease the tension.
In a calmer exchange, the actor said: “If you wanna give them something that they can use, talk to people like they’re humans, not like it’s social media.” The pair subsequently appeared to have a cordial conversation about Nocturne.
Representatives for Schreiber and Apple TV were contacted for comment.
Schreiber attended the premiere with his wife, Taylor Neisen, 34. The couple have a three-year-old daughter, Hazel; he also has two older children, Sasha, 21, and Kai, 17, with his former partner Naomi Watts.
In Nocturne, Schreiber plays Jonah, a homicide detective who leaves Philadelphia for the quieter countryside of western Pennsylvania. His plans for a safer life are disrupted when the town becomes the target of serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Stephen Graham.
The series is based on two Swedish novels, Lazarus and The Sandman, written by Lars Kepler, the pen name of married authors Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril.
Zazie Beetz plays Saga, an FBI agent who regards Jonah as a father figure, while the cast also includes Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz and Bill Camp. The first two episodes of Nocturne are due to air on Apple TV+ on October 30.
