GM’s centralised computer system will extend beyond electric Cadillac models to include petrol-powered SUVs and pick-up trucks, as the carmaker prepares to update its hardware on a smartphone-style cycle.
The next-generation technology will receive new chips every two years, marking a planned refresh schedule for the system’s underlying hardware.
The move means the computer architecture is not being reserved solely for Cadillac’s electric vehicles. It is also set to be used in a wider range of GM SUVs and utes, including models powered by petrol engines.
