West Ham swept aside Wrexham 6-0 at the London Stadium to extend their winning run to four matches and move to the top of the Championship.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side controlled the contest from the opening stages, imposing the quality and intensity of a team that still looked at home among Premier League-level opponents.
Jarrod Bowen broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, arriving at the far post to meet Manor Solomon’s cross after a fluent attacking move.
Wrexham’s defence was breached again shortly before the interval. Taty Castellanos carried the ball into the penalty area before finding Joel Piroe, who finished first time to put West Ham firmly in command.
There was no let-up after the break, with Konstantinos Mavropanos heading Bowen’s inviting corner past Anthony Patterson just three minutes into the second half.
Castellanos added a fourth in the 63rd minute after Kyle Walker-Peters surged forward and laid the ball into the path of the Argentina international, who kept his finish composed.
Mohamadou Kante made it 5-0 in the 76th minute, running on to Solomon’s clever pass over the defence before finishing beyond Patterson.
Solomon completed the scoring after Walker-Peters created another opening for the West Ham No 10. He controlled the ball, turned and fired into the net, with Patterson only able to get a hand to the shot.
The victory gives West Ham 14 points from six matches, lifting them above West Brom at the summit. They have now scored 16 goals in their past four games after a difficult start to the campaign.
For Wrexham, the defeat brought a chastening end to what had been a stubborn defensive run, with their back line breached six times in east London.
