A 32-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a Los Angeles Police Department cruiser responding to an emergency call linked to a large Halloween party in the San Fernando Valley.
The collision happened at about 11.30pm on Saturday, 31 October, near Woodman Avenue and Bessemer Street. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Police said officers had been called to reports of a fight involving a large group at a nearby party, which had attracted almost 300 people. The patrol car, from the LAPD’s North Hollywood station, was travelling to assist with the response when it hit the pedestrian.
The crash occurred roughly a mile from the party, on Woodman Avenue between Bessemer Street and Erwin Street. The officer remained at the scene afterwards.
The woman’s name has not been released. Family members told CBS Los Angeles that she left behind two young daughters.
Authorities have not established whether she was in a marked crossing when she was hit, or whether the wet conditions caused by rain played a part in the collision.
The crash is being investigated. No further details about the officer or the circumstances leading up to the impact have been released.
